Me at age 3...

Out on the back porch of a stucco house where orange marigolds grew and dotted the background of my early childhood memories.

You were perfect.

You're sweet, Jen. I love seeing pics of you from your Gen X growing up years. I remember this day so well - I rolled out of bed groggy and grumpy from a nap and then had a tantrum in the living room before getting my picture made on the back porch. That's why my face was a little bit puffy in the picture!

I forgot that you were adopted by that lovely Oriental couple. That is so funny and cute by the way.

PF: Ha! Actually, if I remember right, my Grandmother had gone on a trip to Asia and brought this outfit back for me. She was quite the world traveler. I think the tantrum I had on the way to the back porch for this picture was about how I wanted to hold my new McDonald's Happy Meal toy in the picture - which would have kind of ruined the theme of the picture. That's sort of a Gen X historical bit of info since I think that was the first year McDonald's started selling Happy Meals and Happy Meal toys (1979).

I remember Happy Meal toys when I was about 4 years old, and they were dinosaur erasers and the kind of stuff you find in a 10cent bubblegum machine. Then they got clever and the toys resembled real collectibles. Now they're probably packaging equipment for kids to attach to their Ipads.

PF: I love that you remember that little eraser. I was reading that erasers were one of the original toys (back then they were called prizes) along with what I think is the toy I was playing with the day of this picture - it was the "McWrist Wallet" which looks a bit like a watch that you wear on your wrist which opened up so you could put things inside like a couple of coins.
